Ikegami will participate in 8K coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics Aug. 5-21 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the company said today.
What the company describes as “the world’s first 8K Outside Broadcast” production vehicle, completed by Ikegami in September 2015, will be on site. Designed for complete 8K broadcast production, the vehicle can produce 8K video along with 22.2 channel surround sound.
Ikegami’s UHDTV camera, the SHK-810, developed with NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corp., will capture 8K video. The camera system, which images video with a single 33-million-pixel Super 35 CMOS sensor, achieves 4,000TVL horizontal and vertical resolution, Ikegami said.
The 8K production will include several Olympics ceremonies and athletic events. Ikegami engineers will be on site during the games to “ensure maximum performance” of the truck and the SHK-810 cameras, the company said.
