Multiplex Cloud has introduced a full SD/HD broadcast quality playout service for television stations at a price starting at $299 a month per channel.
The company said it can equal the services of major industry players at a fraction of the cost. Multiplex Cloud is an entirely software-based system that also handles all setup and future technology advancements, including 4K, without hardware investment.
The service — a one-to-many model — is built on top of a cloud IP distribution platform, and allows clients to deliver broadcast signals over the public Internet to multiple remote sites.
Joe Winston, president of the company, said its clients include the 18-affiliate Soul of the South Network who deliver their signals to multiple remote sites, and DTV America, which is building a network and has already added five channels to the Mutiplex Cloud system. In both cases, Winston says, the service is saving its clients thousands of dollars a month over traditional MPLS/DS3/Fiber/Satellite delivery methods.
With the combination of the company’s cloud IP distribution platform and its new cloud playout platform, it can now provide an end-to-end broadcast playout/delivery/OTT service, Winston says.
Benefits of the system include a fraction of the capital cost of standard playout solutions; stations can now create separate subchannels for different regions/head-ends which can generate more revenue; and channels can be controlled from anywhere on the Internet from multiple devices (Windows, Linux, Android and iOS platforms).
Network providers can launch a channel or affiliate channels in the cloud. There is no need to send playout servers to affiliates. The system can also be used for disaster recovery solutions.
