Last week I made the hour and a half trip from Golden, Colo. down I-25 to Colorado Springs to tour the new studio of KKTV, Gray Television’s CBS affiliate. On TVNewsCheck today, you’ll see a piece about the new studio and all the technology inside.
Colorado Springs is an interesting market because of how competitive it is. It’s always difficult to report ratings because each station general manager has his or her own way of interpreting those numbers. The folks at KKTV told me there’s less than half a rating point separating first from third place. The GM at KOAA, Cordillera Communication’s NBC affiliate says they’re in a solid first, but recognizes that competition is heating up.
KOAA is also working on a new building project, as pointed out in today’s piece, but they’re ready to talk specifics with the trade press at this time. I’ll be making another trip down there after the new year to see how things are shaping up. GM Evan Pappas gave me a sneak peek tour of the inside of the 25,000-square-foot building — today, it’s just an empty building under construction — and it sounds like it’ll be pretty impressive.
But KKTV hopes to be on air before year’s end and are already rehearsing with its new technology. Here are some extra photos that show the inside of the new building.
