A new broadcasting and news facility is opening June 1 in Memphis to support Nexstar Broadcasting Group’s three stations there.
The 27,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to feature a contemporary look and feel, will support WPTY (ABC) and WLMT (CW) Memphis (DMA 49), and WJKT (Fox) Jackson, Tenn. (DMA 176). All three stations will broadcast in HD from the new facility.
The news studio is outfitted with the latest HD news production resources and technologies including new high definition studio cameras, updated weather systems and updated master control infrastructure.
Ardyth Diercks, VP and GM of WPTY/WLMT/WJKT, declined to comment Friday on what kind of equipment will be used in the studio. She says Nexstar plans on releasing more information at the end of the month.
In a prepared statement, Diercks said, “With our soon-to-open Memphis broadcast and digital operations center and HD news facility, we are simultaneously raising our commitment to our viewers and and advertisers with improved and enhanced content, production, marketing opportunities and overall viewing experience for the community at large.”
